Phase II – First Floor Extension

This Project included the provision of a first floor classroom extension to the existing Brookfield's Special School provided by Extraspace Solutions in 2010.  Phase II provided 4 new classrooms and ancillary space. The building was formed by the installation of 10No. Steel-framed Modular units onto the existing building.  This involved a first floor extension to the existing facility and some modifications to the existing ground floor to accommodate access to the new first floor, namely the reduction in size of the classrooms to facilitate a staircase and new lift.  The new extension comprises 4No. classrooms, cloakrooms, WC’s, lifts, canopy, etc.

The first floor extension includes 5 new teaching spaces incorporating bespoke science and art teaching facilities.  The design was primarily focused on the extension (upward) of the existing ground floor.

At the planner’s suggestion, Cedar Cladding was added as an external finish, which removed the Modular appearance of the extension and delivered an aesthetically enhanced building.  The combination of vertical and horizontal Cedar finish offered a particularly attractive finish.

The building is of Steel framed Modular construction with composite roof panels and timber framed walls.  The building is clad with site applied render.
