Extraspace Solutions have been awarded the demolition, refurbishment and new build contract at Sheen Mount Primary School in the leafy London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in West London. Works involve the demolition of the existing 2 number temporary classroom units and single storey reception teaching block, the construction of a larger new 2 storey teaching block, incorporating 6 classrooms, a new food tech room, smaller group rooms for individual teaching, a new library, a staffroom and some much needed new WCs. A new studio hall will be built onto the side of the existing school hall, the existing kitchen will be both remodelled and extended.
A new standalone single storey reception classroom teaching block with canopy, 3 classrooms, new WCs and play areas will be constructed for the youngest members of this school. The main school reception will also receive a facelift, with larger reception office, interview room, DDA compliant WC, remodel of the staff WCs, an additional external door to the South side of the building and new MI room.
There will also be a new upgraded electric supply in a new intake cupboard and further alterations to the 1st floor to provide a new IT Suite. The final part of the puzzle will be to regrade the existing playground and provide some sympathetic soft landscaping to compliment the area. This development will see an increase in the number of pupils to 630 and staff to 52.
The staff, children and parents in this school are very excited about this new development and have joined in by running various school projects with themes of construction and safety and have invited members of Extraspace to some intensive Q&A sessions to get them off to a good start. Even the youngest and smallest members in the Reception Class, with their teachers, have joined in making “site offices” in their classrooms and colouring in some very important pictures for the site hoarding.
