Extraspace Solutions have been appointed as Main Contractors for the new Avonwood Primary School in Bournemouth, Dorset. Works include the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a new two form entry Primary School, complete with ancillary accommodation and facilities.
The works incorporate extensive hard and soft landscaping schemes, leaving the facility ready for immediate occupation. It incorporates 2 new MUGA pitches, tarmac tennis & netball courts and 3G artificial grass pitches. The development is on reclaimed land, so the foundation is a mix of precast concrete piles and pads.
The building is a freestanding, single storey building with a shallow pitched roof, it also incorporates a double height assemble hall section. Constructed using modular steel frames, a total of 58 frames will be required to complete the build. Each classroom is to have a sloped ceiling matching the roof profile and a full REVIT model is being produced for the development. Grey external plastisol cladding, combined with anthracite grey windows, fascias and soffits, will contrast with the white and cedar cladding at low level. The building will include a proprietary external canopy to the front elevation.
Internally the finished building will comprise of pre-school classrooms to year 6, teaching spaces with storage, toilet accommodation, a double height assembly hall and an administration wing.
The approved ventilation strategy is Breathing Buildings, and while the project has no BREEAM requirements, there is a 10% planning requirement on reducing the CO2 better than building regulations.
