London is calling for modular buildings and Extraspace Solutions are answering the call! With twelve of our projects on going at present, London is proving to be as busy as ever. Our current projects in greater London involve design and build healthcare and education projects, as well as school extensions. Two such projects are All Saints C of E Primary School, Carshalton and Dorchester Primary School, Surrey.
After completion of Phase one works within All Saints C of E Primary School, Carshalton in August 2012, Extraspace Solutions were delighted to win the contract for Phase two works earlier this year. Work began on the new extension in April 2014 and progress is coming on well within the new 4 classroom building extension. The two storey, steel framed building has been designed to integrate seamlessly into its surroundings by matching the existing red brick façade within the courtyard area of the school. The classroom extension is coupled with ancillary works involving conversion of a classroom to male and female toilets, extension of the library and conversion into a studio hall, as well as providing some additional storage space.
This project is registered under the Considerate Constructors Scheme and has recently received its “Performance beyond Compliance” Award for achieving a very commendable score on its CCS Monitor Report.
Five miles north east of All Saints C of E Primary School lies Dorchester Primary School. Extraspace Solutions are progressing well with the build of this 2000m2 School development on behalf of London Borough of Sutton, which will be handed over in the next few weeks.
The building is an intricate design and mixes a number of external finishes, from architectural panels and brick slips to rendered finish, which blend and complement each other. The upper floor overhangs the ground floor by 300m offering an interesting design feature with the benefit of natural solar shading. Internally, the building has a centre core, with large light voids to ground floor level.
Employing underfloor heating and natural ventilation through the central core means that this building meets the highest environmental standards. The Building Management System (BMS), ensures that the benefits of these attributes are fully employed.
Watch out for further construction updates in the coming weeks.
